Trails
There are approximately two miles of trails at Irvine Prairie. Trails are mowed at a height to maintain native plants so vegetation in the trails may be slightly higher than you are used to. Terrain consists of gently sloping hills.
Seeding and Planting
We typically seed and plant 100–130 species of plants native to eastern Iowa each year, primarily using commercial seed sources. Our sourcing approach prioritizes planting the most species possible, using the most appropriate genetic sources we can find.
Research
Irvine Prairie is used as a research site by several institutions including UNI, ISU, and USDA-NRCS. Check out the map to see where research is happening. Please respect the work of scientists working here by avoiding areas with poles, markers, flags or data collection instruments.
