Region 6 IPN Prairie Event
September 16, 1pm, Pleasant Lake(AKA Reservoir 2), near Fairfield, IA
We will have birding expert, Diane Porter and Insect enthusiast Moni Haynes to help us learn about and enjoy many aspects of the prairie.
County Road W21 (Pleasant Plain Rd) heads NE out of Fairfield. There is a (former) reservoir (Pleasant Lake) not far out of town, on the W side of the road. There is a bike crossing sign and the entrance (W side of road) to the parking lot is just north of that. The prairie is ahead and to the north as you pull into the parking lot. The prairie gets better closer to the water. Kirkwood is an E/W main street in Fairfield (it is N of old 34 or Burlington Ave). Going out of town to the E, Kirkwood curves around the cemetery and becomes Pleasant Plain Road. Follow it up the hill to Pleasant Lake. Everybody’s Whole Foods (501 N 2nd St) is a good address to put into your GPS. It is at the corner of Kirkwood and N 2nd St/Highway 1. From there go E on Kirkwood and follow it around out of town as described above.
Anyone coming in on Hwy 34 from the E or W can turn N on 2nd St. and follow it up to Kirkwood. From the N, Highway 1 will curve around and the light will be at the corner of N 2nd& Kirkwood (at Everybodys).
From the South, at Burlington jog 1 block W, then turn right at 2nd St., going N to Kirkwood.
