Moving the Needle in 2020: Achieving Cedar River Watershed Goals

The Cedar River Watershed Coalition’s Fall Meeting will be held on Friday, November 8th at Hartman Reserve Nature Center in Cedar Falls (657 Reserve Drive, Cedar Falls). The theme of this event is “Moving the Needle in 2020: Achieving Cedar River Watershed Goals.”

We are excited to announce a very distinguished panel of state water resources leaders, who will share their visions and recommendations for specific actions that will lead to watershed improvement success.

·         Kayla Lyon, Iowa DNR Director: Ensuring Clean Water for Human Health & Aquatic Life

·         Julie Kenney, Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture: Scaling Up Farm Conservation

·         Dr. Larry Weber, University of Iowa – IIHR: A Watershed Approach to Flood Mitigation

·         Adam Kiel, Iowa Soybean Association: Financing Conservation Efforts

·         Ingrid Gronstal Anderson, Iowa Environmental Council: Water Policy in Iowa

·         Susan Judkins, Watershed Management Authorities of Iowa: Importance of WMAs

Following the panel of state leaders, break-out sessions will be convened to allow participants to drill down into topics of their interest. What key actions must be adopted in order to move the needle? How do we build capacity at the local level to fully realize our goals?

To set the stage for meeting, Dr. Gene Takle from Iowa State University will provide an overview of the latest climate science to help us understand what the future could look like in Iowa.

The meeting is free and open to the public. Students are highly encouraged to attend this meeting, to share their thoughts and visions for the Cedar River Watershed. A final agenda will be shared soon.
